Châteauguay, June 16, 2017 – The MP for Châteauguay-Lacolle, Brenda Shanahan, is delighted to announce that the Canada Summer Jobs program has helped to generate 204 youth job opportunities in 78 organizations in the constituency, representing an investment of over $606,000 for summer 2017.
Amongst the 78 recipient organizations, 49 are non-profit organizations, 17 are public agencies and 12 are from the private sector. “What I am most proud of is the fact that our 15 towns will benefit from the program this year, compared to a dozen last year,” says Brenda Shanahan.
Canada Summer Jobs is a component of the Youth Employment Strategy of the Government of Canada which aims to help young people to learn and develop skills enabling them to enter the labor market successfully. The program creates summer employment opportunities for youth 15 to 30 years old who are planning to return to school during the next school year and allows them to gain practical work experience. This measure also encourages employers to create summer job opportunities that focus on local and national priorities by covering up to 100% of young workers’ wages.
Preparing the next generation
“Our government is committed to give Canadian youth the tools and support they need to succeed, and Canada Summer Jobs is a big part of that plan,” explains the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, Patty Hajdu. “We support the professional development of our young people by ensuring that they start their careers on the right foot and thus contribute to our collective economic growth.”
“I invite all students in Châteaugay-Lacolle to benefit from these summer jobs opportunities, to improve their competencies while earning money for the upcoming school year. The hiring period is currently underway!” concludes Brenda Shanahan.
